1999 BMW 525 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 107000 miles
I just took my BMW in for the windows and doors not locking, they replaced the master control switch. They also noticed that I had a oil leak and a power stearing leak. They replaced the head casket and also did a transmission service. As I was leaving the repair shop, there was an issue with accelerating, so they replace the air flow sensor. Today, driving home my car shifted gears and the transmission light came on, I read the manual and it said to shut off the car after placing it in park. I did so and the light went off. 2 miles down the road, the car shifted gears again and would barely move. After driving 40 mph for a mile, they car started lurching forward, and the check engine light and transmission light came on. I turned off the car and tried to turn it on again and it would not start. Finally after 10 minutes the car started and I was able to drive it home, how ever the check engine light is still on. So for total repairs at this point I am up to about 4200.00. What are your thoughts on what could be wrong? I just went in for one thing and this may be the 3rd time I return to the repair shop in a week.
A follow up to my post. I took my car to a transmission shop. They confirmed that my transmission fluid was a pink milkshake color and that some how my transmission fluid got water in it. When the car was brought in to the shop, it was suggested that I service my transmission because the fluid was black. My car did over heat 6 months ago and I had a cracked radiator, it was replaced. So my thoughts are, they have water in their flushing system or there is condensation in the area. To rebuild my transmission it will be 2200.00 but I will not be using the same repair shop that broken my radiator.
