I bought this car back in Feb. Opened the hood and saw a fuel pump wired next to the air filter box. So I was like whatever some Mickey Mouse mechanic must have been too lazy to drop the gas tank. Couple months later I took it on a 450 mile Road trip car ran smooth 34MPG and all. Week later all hell broke loose car letting off really bad gas smell but no leaks to be found. Finally dropped off at a shop they Replaced the Mass Air Flow sensor, New plugs, Distributor and fuel filter. Now the car is turning over really rough takes about 3to5 minutes to turn over but once it runs it runs like a Beast.

My Question is why would the car have 2 fuel pumps? Higher performance? I also found out the cars orignal owner was a Fire Chief if you flick a switch the lights start to flash.

Any ideas on the rough start?

Thank you in Advance

Ernie it sounds like you got a problem child here. In 1990 the E34 car had an M20 motor that has a connector under the intake manifold that if corroded can cause the problems described. The E 34 never had a fuel pump underhood. Let me know if this helps.
