1998 BMW 328 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 160k miles

6 out of 7 days my cars heat will work; its like it has a mind of its own. The day it chooses to not work there is very little residual heat coming out of the vents, but its like the blower isnt working. What could be causing this? Blower motor malfunction? Secondary Air Pump malfunction? Blower Motor Resistor malfunction?

BMW uses a solid state device referred to as a final stage that actually controls the fan. They can and do fail and with the symptoms you describe. 64-11-8-380-580 should be the correct part number. It is located on the drivers side and the under dash will need to be removed to access it.
