Engine Cooling problem
1979 BMW 320 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 109xxx miles

If I let my car idle it starts to overheat, but if I start driving it then it goes back down. Also, if I turn on the AC, the temperature gauge will jump up right away, and if I turn on a fan it justs up even more. So, in other words, the more stuff I turn on, the more it jumps up. Another thing is that I have a subwoofer and whenever the bass hits, the temperature gauges moves with it.

Hi there,

Thank You for the donation,

As for the cooling system do the basics first, ensure thermostat is working correctly, also the [pressure cap is also holding correct pressure, check that the cooling fan is ok and have the radiator professionally cleaned as you may have some blocked core tubes, as for the sub woofer and the temp gauge, I would be checking the amp wiring and all earths and powers are clean and tight, but I am not really sure why this would be the case, the obvious is an electrical problem.

The first thing that occurs to me is that there are two things going on that seem like one thing. The needles jump because there is a loose connection in the instrument cluster. The cooling system will probably require closer inspection, the radiator may need rodding out or recoring.
