Transmission problem
2005 BMW 318 Two Wheel Drive Manual 19000 miles

When releasing the clutch there is a weak squishy noise (this can be heard even when the engine is off and the gear in neutral) and a kick on the gas pedal. It is very annoying feeling. It happened all of a sudden.

Can you tell me where the noise is coming from? And I am not sure what you mean when you say a" kick in the gas pedal"

The weak noise is coming from the clutch pedal. About an inch before releasing completely the clutch pedal, it feels like it rubs against something (mild friction) and at the same time I feel a mild pulling up of the gas pedal. This repeats every time I change gears. It happened all of a sudden yesterday for the first time and doesn't go away since.

This is not good. Check for broken motor and transmission mounts.
