my steering is really stiff and making a grinding noise, it has power steering fluid in there but it is not getting any better, it is making driving the car difficult, a friend told me it could be the steering colume but wasn't sure!! PLEASE HELP ME!!!

The power steering pump has very possibly sustained a failure internally. The root cause is a broken vane in the pump itself, causing the shaft to separate from the vane body, if you slack the multi groove belt off the pulley, the shaft will most likely be able to be pulled out of the pump.
