BCM swap?

The BCM in my vehicle listed above is bad, I am going to purchase a used one from another 2003 Vue. Mine is the 4-cylinder AWD, the used BCM is out of a 2003 AWD V6. Can it still be used? I tried to use one out of a 2004 V6 FWD and the technician said it was not possible, has to be from 2003, but did not specify if it had to match completely to be programmed.

Hi,

The body control module needs to match the same part number as the one in the vehicle. In this case, you have a 2.2L 4-cylinder engine. The one for the V6 engine won't work.

Additionally, after it is installed, it will require programming and relearning the vehicle's original options. Make sure the tech you are having do this is able to clear the replacement and reprogram it to your vehicle's original RPOs (regular production options).

Have you checked online to see if you can find one that is already redone? There are online places that remanufacture the part and then using your VIN, program it before you get it. Once you receive it, it simply is a remove and replace procedure.

So, when I pulled one out of an 04 Vue it has the same part number and the dealership said it wouldn’t work, it had to be an 03 BCM. I am looking at a used one. The guy has 2 different ones out of 2003s one is a V6 AWD, and the other is the 4cyl. FWD. Mine is a 4cyl AWD. Which one can I use?

Hi,

Based on past experience, as long as it has the same part number, you should be able to program it to your vehicle. If it has a different number, it won't work.

If one matches and your mechanic can reprogram it for your vehicle, you should be okay. My concern is that you buy it, pay to have it programmed, and it doesn't work. That's why I suggested a remanufactured one that's plug and play.
