Hi, when starting my vehicle listed above which is a 64 plate c220, it tells me to stop shift to P and leave engine running. I have been informed that it is probably the battery due to the amount of stop/starts already taken place. My concern is if I go and pay £170 for a replacement battery to be fitted at Halfords will the computer still need resetting and not clear the fault? Or will the vehicles computer some how know there is a new battery installed due to a difference in voltage etc?

It isn't so much a re-set but the battery does need to be initialized. That tells the car that you have changed the battery, what size and type it is and will allow it to charge it properly. Most places that do battery installs should have the tools needed to do the job. However I would first have the current battery load tested and have the charging system tested as well. You could have something as simple as a bad battery connection causing a problem.
