I had my car in for 75,000 Service. They say it is standard to change timing belt at 75,000. They wanted $2,100 for this. I was going to drive to 100,000 then buy a new one. What kind of a risk am I taking not replacing the belt. There is nothing wrong with it they sau it is just standard service.

do I need to change it?

The timing belt replacement interval quoted by the car maker is an insurance that you don't risk breaking the belt. It is also a strong selling point when the time comes to sell your car, it shows that you have performed regular maintenance. $2100 seems like a lot of money to change a timing belt, have you priced it at other places yet?
