This all started with a alternator going bad and the alternator belt snapped. Replaced both and then it was fine for a month. Then the belt starts squealing so I tightened and fine for a couple weeks or so. Started squealing again so bad that the belt was toast. Also found that the new alternator was bad. Replaced both again. Fine for another month and then started squealing again. This time it become so loose that the alternator stopped charging and the battery went dead. I can smell the burnt rubber from the belt too. Tightened up the belt again to check the alternator. Alternator is charging well at 14.6. This belt has a manual bolt style tensioner. I have even marked the bolt to see if it was moving and it has not. The only other thing the belt runs to is the water pump/fan clutch and the main pully. Water pump is not leaking and the car does not run hot. I have tried replacing the belt with the best quality I can find and still no difference. I am at a loss with this. Why do these alternator belts keep failing? Please help!

Youmay be adjusting it to tight or there may be a bad pulley arrows on pic point to where adjustment should be measured see pics. This Is for a 2.4L as we don't know engine size.

It is the KA24DE motor. I have checked the tension by the book which says 1/4" to 1/2" deflection. It becomes so loose that I can turn the tension bolt by hand for about a 1/4 turn befor using the socket.

We just list motors in our manual as 2.4 or 3.0l or whatever size it is the new site doesn't give us motor sizes any longer. What I gave you is specs from Nissan. I would check pulleys then if you keep eating belts or alignment those are about the the only things that will eat a belt like yours is doing if adjustment is correct.

Would the water pump pulley be causing this even though its functioning properly? The alternator is brand new and the only other pulley is the crank shaft which the other belts are running on with no issues.

If the pulley were out of line with the other two pulleys then yes it could case the problem. A straight edge can verify belt alignment.
