Snap-on Modis

Hello all,

Let me first introduce myself, my name is Chris and I am currently working for a small private shop (the only tech there). On weekends and evenings I rent out another shop where I do performance hondas/acuras and general repairs. My local snap-on supplier came into my shop today because I was inquiring about a labscope (vantage). He then went on to explain that he has a pretty good sale on Modis' (scope/scanner all in one).

I was curious if anybody here uses them. Any down-falls to this product? How are the tech-tips? Is the 'european package' worth it? Etc.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I've used the modis at the last independent shop, it was ok, it did alot of bi-directional tests as well as communicating with almost every module in the car, only downside is you cant reprogram anything with it and the price is VERY high. Dont know if the european software is worth it, never used it, but if you work on alot of euro cars it might pay for itself. Plus there is little to no info or software for this vehicles, snap on does a good job of getting the proper software so it might work.I personally think going with the MAC mentor or something on the same line would be better because you can get all the same software and you can actually reprogramm modules in every make and model with the mentor. Plus they are alot cheaper, especially used.

I love it. But mainly cause im not too into programing. Id only trust programming to a factory scan tool anyways.

They are expensive but they are a good reliable tool. They get 5 stars from me

about the euro package? Took forever to get the program and I never used it that much so it wasnt worth it to me.

I do not reprogram modules, that is why I am thinking about the MODIS.

I have heard that the batteries can fail on these units. Any input on this?

So the snap on tech gave me the modis to play with for a couple of days. So far I like it. The only downfall are trying to do anything with vw's. The euro. Package is too much for the amount of volume I get with european vehicles unfortunately. Does anyone know if the KV module is built in? Or do I have to purchase this separate? I forgot to ask the snap on representative.

Also, I had the MAC distributor come in today. We assured me the MAC Navigator is a much better product and I can get it for almost $1000 cheaper. Does anybody have any experience with this product?
