Am I an idiot or a genius?

A customer has an 84 Fiero brought over on a tow truck.

The fuel pump will only run for about 1 second, even with the oil pressure switch jumped.
but if you cut the power to the pump, and then reapply it, the pump will run again for about 1 second.

I can only speculate that the armature in the pump is getting sideways a little and locking up.
and once the magnetic field is removed, then it centers up again.

so it's got 3/4 of a tank and needs a new fuel pump.

the car gods must have been smiling on me, cause in less than 30 seconds I came up with the idea of wiring in a hazard flasher into the oil pressure pigtail.
The tank was empty in about 20 minutes.

keep this in mind if you run across the same problem.

I am speechless. That was brilliant.

Usually failing pumps would work after knocking it a little and then it would proceed to work till you stop and the chances of having the pump acting as described is one in a million.

The bad news is your invention would have to wait for the next one in a million chance to be applicabe.
;)

Thanks for the input, if I happen to be the next one in a million, I would definitely inform you.

The odd numbers are on the driver side and the even numbers are on passenger side. The injectors are numbered that way. You had your backwards. Thanks.
