2010 Questions for all other cars

I work on the ambulances and I went out to a car that went into a wall the driver wasn’t warring his seat belt but I could not up it out like you would normally. So how do seat belt tensioners work in an accident with or with out anyone in the seat or having them on. Any website? Thanks

Hi there,

Most modern cars now have seatbelt Pre tensioner, this is tied in with the SRS system and they Pre tighten the belt during impact as quick as the air bag can deploy, when Pre tensioned they are locked in place, this system can vary on makes and models.I worked in road accident rescue with the fire brigade, we had belt cutters as standard equipment to release people from Pre tensioned and locked seat belts.
