Hello, I have a 1994 Saturn SW1 1.9 Liter Single OHC with 167,000 miles on it. Runs great for the most part, however in recent years, I've had issues with my A/C, it
just doesn't want to blow cold. Last summer I replaced
it's schrader valves and recharged the system and it blew
cool, but not not cold for the rest of the summer. This
year, everything kicks on, however the unit just does not blow cold air. This car's a/c has never been a peak
performer and I'd really like to get it up and running
the way it should run, hopefully with it blowing freezing cold air. I've driven other older GM vehicles
that have wonderful a/c's. My mechanic says it may be the expansion valve? I also found an interesting article here about 1994 Saturn a/c's :

Can you offer some suggestions? Thanks

At 167k is the compressor still putting out the required pressures to make real cold air? Has any work other than the valves been done to the system?

Hi, No work has been done to the air conditioning system other than the replacement of the shrader valves
twice. The system has also been evacuated and recharged at least two or three times. Then you believe that the compressor no longer puts out the pressure needed and would need to be replaced? Can those pressures be measured? Thanks

First the system has to be able to hold a charge. Has it been checked for leaks? A qualified a/c repair shop will have the equipment needed to test the pressures and check the system for leaks
