My 1972 MGB, has an electric fuel pump (aftermarket) that runs continuously when the ignition is on and the engine isn't running, should there be a fuel pressure switch that turns off the pump once a certain pressure is reached?

The elect. Pump should start running the minute you turn the key on position. There is no switch to turn the pump off, it runs as long as the key is in the on position.
