Alarm light flashing?

The other day I noticed my alarm light on dashboard started flashing when the car is shut off but still unlocked, key removed. When I lock the car with key fob and actually set alarm, the light blinks faster than usual. The light is not on when I am driving the car, but as soon as I shut it off, the (red) alarm light starts flashing within a few seconds, and as I said, the car is still unlocked. Nothing else is acting weird and no other warning lights on the dashboard are on. The car is running fine; the battery is only 1 year old. I don't know how the alarm system got triggered, if that's what happened. One other thing to note--don't know if this is important, seconds before this started, I heard a very slight flutter when I started the car. I noticed a faint yellow warning light on dashboard start to flash, then it stopped. It was very dim, and I couldn't tell what the symbol was. When I got home and shut off the car, that symbol started flashing red and I was able to find out through the owner's manual that it was/is the alarm light. (That's the only time I ever heard that slight flutter when I started the car. It hasn't happened again)

I think the flutter might not be related and it sounds like the body integrated unit at the left side of the dash could be going out. I would disconnect the battery (negative cable only) and leave it overnight to see if the system resets. Also, we should do a CAN scan. You can get a CAN scanner (Controller Area Network) which will work on most cars from Amazon.

Here is a video to show you how:

Let us know how it goes.

Thank you for your quick response! I will first try disconnecting the negative battery cable overnight.

Yep, this can reboot the system and helpfully straighten out and procedural errors in the system.

My brother is supposed to come on Sunday to show me how to do it, as I don't have the right tools. I'll let you know how it went, as I will leave the battery (negative cable) disconnected overnight on Sunday.

Well, I disconnected the negative cable overnight. Car started up fine but I heard one loud beep and saw one bright flash of the security light on dashboard when car was started. It went out immediately, but sadly, when I shut off car and took out key, well, the light is still flashing. If I buy a CAN scanner from Amazon, what do I do with the results? (I noticed some of them are fairly cheap, which is good bc I'm on sick leave from work but $ is getting tight). I watched the video and parts of it seemed a little complicated--I'll have to watch it again. Also, quick question that is driving me crazy--lol. Does the alarm system in the 2017 Subaru Forester have a fuse? I couldn't find listing for one in either of the 2 fuse boxes in the car. I'm trying to find anything possible that I can handle to stop that stupid light from blinking without taking it to the Subaru dealer, because they'll charge big bucks and I just have a feeling it's something simple. However, if it turns out to be the body integrated unit, well, I guess I'll have no choice other than to do that.

Yep, pretty much, if you start removing fuses other items with not work and the engine may not start at all. You are going to need to do what feels best to you, I would look for a preprogrammed unit by searching Google or Ebay to see how much they want for it and then call the dealer and ask them how much they want and go from there. Here is how to replace the unit in case you want to give it a shot. Here is the CAN scanner I would get:

It is $189.00, so you can make a decision. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.

Yeah, I figured that would be the case with fuses. I was just hoping there was a fuse specifically marked for the alarm, and that's all it managed. Just my luck, there isn't. LOL Anyway, thank you for your help and I'll let you know what I end up doing. It may take a while for me to decide.
