My car's air system just started putting out extremely hot air whether in cold mode or if the A/C is on. I took to local Toyota dealership was told that the air servo mix damper needs to be replaced. I'm fine with the $200 quote for the piece itself but was told that it was a minimum 5 hour project because the dashboard needed to be removed. I was told that labor alone would cost almost $1500! Does this sound right? Money is tight and I would like it fixed but wanted to make sure that they weren't taking advantage. Thank you!

You don't say if the problem is the door itself or the electric actuator. If it's the air door itself, then yes the dash has to come out and it is nearly 6 hours to do so along with evacuate and recharge of the system. If the problem is the electric actuator only, that is only half hour to change.

Thank you for your reply! Definitely will ask the service shop. They didn't say if it was the door or the electric actuator. Will find out today. Thank you so much again!

Hi wrenchtech. The repair department wasn't open today so I couldn't find out which portion of the servo mix damper was broken but in the summary it says he disconnected and reconnected the part and it worked for a few minutes then it stopped working again. Does that sound more like the electric actuator?

Yes, it does and that only takes a half hour to change according to the Alldata flat rate database.
