Air/heat blow out of the defrost and not out the vents

I cannot get the heat or air to blow out the vents. Can you tell me what I need to do? Can someone tell me what the problem could be?

It will be your mode actuator that is bad up or needs to be reset. Pull HVAC fuse out of in side box for sixty seconds with key on then reinstall it may take another sixty seconds to reset if not then the actuator is bad. See picture for instructions on replacement.

I am talking about a car not my air conditioning unit in the house, the air is not flowing out the vents in my car, it is only blowing out the defroster what can I do to set it or what do I need to do for it to work the right way.

There is a blend door actuator that sound like it has gone bad which is common. Here is a guide so you can see what you are in for when replacing it and a diagram (below) for your car to help you get the problem fixed.
