When I am in the truck and the truck is running regardless if it is in drive or "park", when I go to turn the air conditioner on the truck starts to putter and wants to shut off. So I quickly hit the off button and the truck will come back to normal. So what could cause that when I turn the A/C on?

With the truck off, reach down and see if the A/C compressor turns easily. It sounds like a bad compressor bearing or compressor causing a load on the engine.
