Aftermarket radio installation

I had an aftermarket radio installed in the truck last year. It worked for a couple of days then stopped working. In the meantime the battery died. I jumpstarted the truck and all of a sudden the radio was working again. This pattern has continued through the year. Everytime the radio doesn't work, jump the truck and it will work again for a while. The people who installed it claim it is a problem with the radio and they can't do anything else.

Just looking for a few leads on what to check. All fuses are good.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

When this happens, is there anything else that doesn't work? Is the battery completely dead?

Let me know.

Welcome back:

I have to be honest, I'm confused. If the battery is dead, nothing should work. Here is what I want you to check. If the radio stops working, I first want to know where they got the power supply from. If it is direct to the battery, you may just have a bad connection, loose connection, the battery terminal is corroded or loose... Start there. Make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight.

It almost sounds like you lose power and then the battery is rendered dead due to corrosion or a loose connection. When you put the jumper cables on it to restart it, the connection is remade. Take a look through this link and try what it discusses.

Do this and let me know if it helps and what you find.
