After changing my CV joint and my 4WD drive I drove the about 200 miles and the other day starts snowing. I put 4WD to drive and I am thrilled about twenty to thirty miles and it stopped. It would not move. After that what I did it was I was pushing the gas pedal is going no who is going nowhere I messed up the transmission. The question is, I want to ask you is when a mechanic change the CV joint from a car do they have to take the check the transmission fluid?

Good morning,

Yes, they needed to check the fluid as the fluid will leak out during the repair.

You will have to prove that low fluid level was the cause from the repair. That will not be easy.

It is me again Rob, I want to ask you a question they want me to pay $1,300.00 to fix rebuilt transmission. Do you think it was my fault or the mechanic fault for not checking the transmission fluid? Or or let it go and just pay the $1,300.00? What do you think I should do?

To me, it kind of depends on the timeline. If it was rebuilt last week, and then leaked out all of the fluid and kicked the bucket, that is purely on the shop. However, if it was rebuilt eight months ago, and slowly leaked out over time, then there is some shared fault there. Because you have never checked it, and had a fair amount of time to notice a leak and have it addressed. Basically, I am saying it depends on the exact situation, and also on the terms of the rebuild warranty (if there is one). Provide some more details, and the information on the warranty, and I would be happy to take a look at it.

At first I take it to the mechanic shop they told me it was they replace CV axle four wheel drive actuator they charged me $420.00. That was fine that is not good price but I drove my car for 200 miles stopped out of nowhere did not want to move. I was pushing the gas pedal and I messed up that transmission. But my point is that they should have checked at the transmission fluid because they put CV axle not I missed up at remission and I have to pay up $1,300.00 just to fix that part the transmission rebuilt. My point is if it was their fault or my fault for not checking the transmission fluid that is why I think it was already low and few I am transmission fluid, but when they changed the part of CV axle they should check the transmission fluid. Right?
