I just had a rack and pinion installed and the mechanic said the power steering pump has a defect because the car turns to the right fine but is very diffucult when turning to the left. It is like only having power steering in one direction. So can power steering pump pressure be the problem or a defective rack and pinion?

Hi haleaz,

If the pump is faulty, then both directions would be difficult to turn.

It should be the rack side, either the valve control body or its direction turning pin is stuck.

If you did a repair on the rack, then most probably the internal circlip on the top of the pinion beaing is not installed in the correct position.

If you replaced the assy, get another one.
