when starting the car cold I noticed I would get a noise for 1 or 2 seconds that sounds like the starter was not disengaging quick enough

I assumed it was the starter and I replaced it with a rebuilt unit. Unfortunately the noise still persists (it may even be more frequent than before). Is it possible the replacement starter is bad too? Should I be looking at something else? I checked the battery and it seems fine (i even left a charger on it overnight -still made the noise the next morning)

any suggestions would be appreciated

Where the two seals that keep moisture out in good shape and clean? Did you check flywheel gear teeth condition?
