Did you take the belt off already? You should see an up word or mark on the crank pulley. The cam gear should have a line across it with a line perpendicular to it. The line should be positioned paralell to the top of the motor block. Another way of checking the crank position is to stick a long screwdriver into cylinder #1 and slowly rotate the crankshaft back and forth until the screwdriver is at its highest point. That is top dead center. DO NOT TURN OVER the engine. If you took of the old belt it must be close. Turning over the engine can ruin it by bending valves.
