As I start the car and put it in drive, it accelerates without me applying the gas! It gets into well over 25 mph. Does anyone know what may be the problem? Highly appreciate any help!

Hello,

This can happen when the throttle actuator goes bad. here is a guide to help replace it. We should run the codes as well. Check to see if the floor mat is holding the gas pedal down as well as the cable adjustment.

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what happens.

Hi,

You have a throttle cable so this is one of two things most likely. First and most likely the throttle body plate/linkage is dirty and does not fully close which means the RPM are higher then it should be. The other possible cause is the throttle cable itself is holding the throttle open just a little bit which gives the same effect of higher RPM.

I included the procedure of how to replace the throttle body. However, I don't think you need to replace it. I think you need to disassemble the intake system far enough to see the throttle plate. Once you do this, remove the throttle cable from the throttle body and make sure it is not binding. If it is, replace it. If not, clean the throttle body and then retest the vehicle.

Also, we need to check for codes. So when you are going to the parts store to get throttle body/induction cleaner, ask them to scan it for codes. Most parts stores do this for free.

Let me know the codes and what the throttle body and linkage are like then we can go from there. Thanks
