A/C not getting cold and van runs hot when in park/idle

A/C was recharged it was completely out then when I got another can the can from previous day was already leaked out. Not to mention I got about 20 minutes of cooler air before it went back warm. It blows fine and I can tell when it goes from low (1) to high (5) it's a difference in how it blows as it should be just not cold. I also checked the filters in dash and OMG it was like a birds nest in both yarn leaves trash everything I had to vacuum them. Don't even know if I put them back in correctly just lays inside den. Also my car runs hot when it is sitting still. Maybe a fan isn't working and that's also why my A/C not working? My shade tree mechanic said needs new A/C compressor that's over $200.00 fix. The vehicle is very old, but I have a baby and it's hot in the south. Please help I don't even know what fuses/relays to start with.
