When I turn on the A/C unit it will come on for approximately fifteen seconds and then shuts off. The A/C system says it’s charged. But I can’t get it to stay on.

This model had an issue with the evaporator temperature sensor where they would short out and cause the compressor not to engage. You would need an advance scanner to scan the A/C module for codes. If you have a fault for the sensor then you will need to pull the dashboard back to access the sensor.

Also when pulling the dashboard, the A-pillars need to be removed. Those are a one time use so you will need to replace them once you remove them. I learned the hard way and the repair procedure stresses that. If you do have a fault code for the sensor here is a YouTube link that should help you do the repair.

This guy makes it simple to follow. Good luck and keep us posted or if you need any more advise.

One thing to add is last night it was about 60 degrees out side and the compressor was kicking on and off and actually working. But this morning when it was about 72 degrees it kicked on for about ten seconds and then shut off and would not got back on.

What I’m wondering is if maybe the air gap is to far off on the A/C clutch. Maybe one of the shims needs to be taken out?

That can also be an issue as well. Attached image below for the specs.

 2. If the A/C clutch air gap is out of range, remove the clutch plate. Add or remove spacers between the clutch plate hub and the compressor shaft until the clearance is within specification.

It’s the sensor that’s behind the dash. I took it in to the Ford dealership and had it looked at.

I did not have it fixed yet. But I believe the part is like under $30.00. I went to an auto part store and had it priced I am not sure on what the name of the part is but it sits inside the (HVAC?) And controls the temperatures. So it does not freeze up any parts.

Was it a temperature or mode blend door actuator? If so here is how you change it out and the locations of each actuator. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what happens.

It is the evaporator temperature sensor. They short out. The labor is expensive since the dashboard needs to be removed.

The Ford dealership told me it was about a six hour job. So I don’t know what they charge per hour, but I’m assuming right around four or $500.00 They didn’t give me an exact number on what it would cost to have it replaced. But I am choosing to replace it myself here shortly probably within the next month.
