I took reverse light sensor completely out. A shinny brass looking washer was on it. Seemed over tightened, washer is crushed a little bit. However, I am not sure if it needs to be in or does it matter. I am not getting in either gate for fifth or reverse. Question: How do I test the sensor? Any ideas on shift problems please? What to directly pull out next, drop transmission or not? I attached a picture of the switch and washer. Thank you so much Sir.

Good morning.

That is the back up light switch. The copper washer is needed and has to be installed as it controls the clearance between the switch end and the shift rail.

As far as no fifth and reverse, it sounds like a shift rail issue inside the transmission. This will require removal of the transmission and disassembly to determine the failure.
