I have the van listed above Touring model. I got it fixed by a Chrysler dealer because it was leaking oil. They replaced the engine oil cooler, adapter engine oil filter, the intake manifold gaskets, intake plenum gaskets, and the oil pressure sensor. They also filled it with Antifreeze and 6 quarts of 5w20 oil. The Service guy at the dealership told me that they found a code P0523 which was the oil sensor. They also cleaned the oil off of the engine and the transmission. Well I started to get a smell like burning antifreeze but it wasn't getting hot or over heating. I thought maybe they may have dripped some antifreeze on the inside when they filled it. Well now my heater doesn't come on right way when I turn it on. After awhile the heater starts blowing out heat. Then another time when I started it it did the same but this time the heat would kick in and out and then stay on like normal. I decided to turn the air conditioner on the see what it would do and the driver side blew cold air and the passenger side blew heat. I also noticed today that the fluid under the radiator cap is a brownish orange color. Could this be something they did to make this happen? What could it be? I have an appointment tomorrow so that they can check it out to see if the parts they replaced are faulty. They charge a hefty diagnostics fee if it's not their parts and ends up being something else. I don't want to be used for not knowing anything about mechanical stuff with cars and charged a lot of money.

It's been 2 weeks since they did the initial work on my van. I never had an issue with the heater until they did the initial repairs so that's why I thought maybe it was something the mechanics at the dealership did or the parts they used are faulty.

If you are smelling this from the vents then it could be a heater core. I attached the info about the heater core. Also, you could be correct that they didn't clean the engine off if they spilled some but this would normally burn off in a couple days. If you are still smelling this then I suspect the heater core. However, if you smell it from outside the vehicle then you could very well have a faulty cooler.

I would suggest just letting us know what they find and we can let you know if this is related to what they did.

I smelled it outside. I thought it was overheating because of the smell. Today I took the cap off of the radiator and there is a brownish fluid there. I smelled the fluid and it was like the smell I was getting before. I guess I will have to see what the mechanic says. My initial repairs cost me almost $900.00. :-/ Thank you for responding Kasekenny1. I appreciate it and will let you know what the mechanic tell me tomorrow.

Okay. Sounds good. The brownish color makes me nervous but that could just be the old coolant mixing with the new that they put in there. I doubt they completely drained the system so hopefully it is just older fluid. There is a chance it is just a loose connection also.

Yes. Please keep us updated. Thanks

I ended up bringing it into the mechanic today. They said I need a new blower motor and the right side temperature actuator needs replaced. There's no leaks but he recommends that I get a tuneup to replace spark plugs.
