According to the repair shop this cable is corroded and must be replaced, costing over $600
I am looking for a less expensive source and have called and searched online but cannot find the part, even in ford. Com online parts catalog.
Can you help me find the right cable at a reasonable price?

I did some research and can't find any available, even through Ford. First, I can't believe what they are trying to charge you, and second I would contact Ford customer relations (The number is in the rear of the owner's manual) and request it to be replaced FREE of charge. A three year old car with 40K miles should NOT be having this type of problem.

My guess is they will do it. If for some reason they don't, first I would get a second opinion from a different shop. If they say it is bad, since none are available yet (because they usually don't go bad), you may have to contact a salvage yard.
