Hi, I am installing a whipple supercharger to my car. And the instructions include installing 2 small dowels into the crank.

The kit came with a drill guide and a drill bit that was supposed to be the perfect length for the dowels. But when I put the dowels in, neither seemed to fit flush.

So now I have 2 small dowels sticking out slightly from the crank just barely passed the harmonic balancer.

So I don't think I can tighten the crank bolt all the way without messing it up.

What I have tried so far is to place the drill guide back on the dowels and drill through the dowels to make deeper holes, but the bit I tried just broke barely making a mark.

I tried screwing into the dowel with a sheet metal screw to try to get a grip to remove it to no avail.

My next thought is to remove the harmonic balancer to expose more of the dowels to see if I can get a better grip.

I have already ordered new dowels to so defacing them wouldn't be an issue.

My intentions are to remove these dowels, drill the holes deeper and replace them so they sit flush.

Another thought was to grind these dowels down and drill 2 different holes opposite of these for new dowels.

Any suggestions would be helpful thank you.

Normally, we only deal with OEM repairs. However, I wanted to say that you should get the dowel pins out that you already have in stalled. Don't drill new holes. If you can't get them out, try heating around them to expand the crank and then try to remove them.
