It seems my car doesn't respond very quickly to the gas pedal. Since I got it from the dealership there seems a delay between applying pressure and getting additional motion. Particularly in reverse a slow increase in pedal pressure takes like 2.5 seconds to do anything and when it does it jolts backwards. Is this the draw back of better highway mpg? Anyway to improve this type of thing? My mechanic fixed my rear breaks recently and didn't mention anything about the accelerator so I assume this is the norm.

Is there a way to tell if it is normal or a fluid issue or something that might be loose? It feels like it has always been an issue so wasn't sure if it has to do with the model of car?

You have to scan for codes and check fuelpressure with a gauge first to see if anything is wrong with engine or if transmission is throwing a code. Then you do stuff like check vacuum at idle for a blocked exhaust. If it is 15" or below at intake then suspect the exhaust is blocked. If it takes 2.5 seconds it may be a torque converter /trans issue so a trans guy shold look at it.
