Voltmeter on dash reads low voltage, less than 14V but voltage output at battery with hand held voltmeter says 15V rising to 17V+ while running. Does the alternator need to be replaced? Load test on battery shows OK but battery dies after more than 2 days of not running engine.

recheck battery first take inital load off of battery by turning headlights on for 20 seconds wait a minute then recheck battery. sounds like the battery is sulfated. do a true load test on battery not just putting voltmeter on it most auto parts stores can do it for free. if still doesit go to site and look uner how to repair -battery item 9 parasitic draw tells how to check that
