I just purchased a 2006 cadillac srx and I was informed this car uses "synthetic oil". I paid 100 dollars for oil change and oil filter. The average cost for this car?

It recommends 5W-30 Mobil 1 full synthetic. Your oil change intervals are spread out to as much as 10k miles, depending on driving habits. Not the 3 mo/3000 miles, as what used to be recommended. $100 does seem a bit high, it only takes 6 quarts(if it is a 6 cyl). Use the oil life monitor to determine your when your oil needs changed, not the lube facilities recommended time. It will however, need to be checked regularly, as it will use some oil. You could check it about every 3000 miles, or so.

Not sure what engine you have, but most of these vehicles have an internal filter. Basically, you need a socket to remove the filter cap, a wrench to remove the drain plug, and a pan to catch the oil.

I am changing the oil for the first time. Can you tell me where the drain plug is and where to find the oil filter case? I have the oil (Mobil 1) 5W 30 and filter. What size wrenches? THANK YOU!

Th drain plug is on the oil pan, left or right on the lowest point, I am not positive which side. It is a 13mm hex drain plug bolt. The oil filter housing is under the hood, left side of the engine, and I believe it is 24mm. There is an o-ring on the cover, your filter might come with a new one, but check it's condition if re-use is necessary.

I tried starting my car earlier this evening and there was an issue. The engine didn't fully start and once I stopped turing the key, it still tried starting up, making that grinding noise. The check oil level notification came across the dash as well. I'm a thousand miles shy of having to get another oil change, but my car also has a history of burning through quarts of oil between changes. I would usually check the oil level between fill ups and just add half a quart or so when need be. My question is what could possibly be wrong with it and not letting it fully turn over and start? Low oil level? High oil level? Some other problem?

Thanks!
