All gasoline engine burn gas so to speak it is compressed to make the air fuel mix more flammable as well as power then spark is added and there is a tiny explosion in the cylinder that is what makes the car run. That is what is meant by burning gas. However gasoline engines can also runon alcohol, natural gas as well as propane gas. But the engines must be modified. Things NEVER EVER to do with gasoline are clean with it and always be careful when fueling things like power tools with it as it has a flash point of 105 degrees that is why gas is stored undergroundmost of the time to keep it cool while fueling.

If you prius is a hybrid then you wont burn extra gas because it uses electricity to power the car to get it moving then the engine may kick in soyou don't burn extra gas.
