The bakie has been fixed (alternator and new belt) it is a rocam motor. Now when I start it it all is well, idles perfect, but when I rev up to about just a lil over 2rpm I hear a winding noise, almost like something spinning too fast, its in the region of either the power steering pump and down to the starter. Now as far as guessing goes, I don't know but can it be the starter kicking in and not kicking back?

Hi
Experienced the same problem. Heres the solution:

1.) Check that the Serpentine belt is correctly fitted.
2.) The flat side of the belt should be on the tensioner and not the grooved side.
3.) Did you disconnect the high pressure powersteering pump line?
4.) The number one cause would be that the high pressure line was disconnected to effectively gain access to the alternator.
5, ) Never, Ever disconnect the high pressure line that feeds the pump, it disturbs the teflon seal and introduces air in the powersteering system and causes a failure of the pump.
6.) This is the most common cause of pump failure in the Rocam.
7.) Rather remove the 4 bolts that secure the pump and move it aside to do any other repairs.
8.) The New pump costs over R1500 and never use a second hand pump.
9.) Be sure to prime the system carefully to avoid damage to a new powersteering pump.

Cheers
