2007 Chrysler Sebring broken engine oil dip stick

my engine oil light came on - took it to a shop and they said they couldn't check the oil as the dip stick had broken off inside the tube - and they would not add oil without checking it first. Not sure what to do

you should be able to fish it out with a pocket magnet. add at least one quart, its better than none. when in doubt then drain and refill with 5 quarts until you can get the stick out
