For the past month or so my 3rd gear has been jumping out. It started off occasionally and then got progressively worse. I now have to keep it in place for it to actually stay in the 3rd gear before I can remove my hand. I'd like to know if this is an easily fixed problem or if it is something that would incur a huge cost to be fixed.

thanks a lot.

regards,
Gino

it can be one of two things, either an adjustment to linkage if it can be or the linkage ball stop or synchro for 3rd is worn out.

Hi,

Thanks for the response. One more question. Would either of these problems require opening up the gearbox itself? If i'm not mistaken the ball linkages aren't inside the gearbox but outside.

regards,

Gino

we dont' have the tazz in the U.S but its similar to a corolla. It may be a bad cable which is replaced outside the trans if anything worn other than that would be inside the trans.
