My gearbox has packed up. I am getting a reconditioned one. However, it does not come with a torque convertor. The dealer wants an additional amount to have the torque convertor reconditioned. However, according to my mechanic, there are no serviceable parts in the torque convertor. If there was, I am certain that a reconditioned gearbox would have been supplied with one. Please advise as to whether the torque convertor can / needs to be serviced?

Thank You

Your "mechanic" is dead wrong. Torque Converters are rebuild-able at a rebuilder and should be replaced/rebuilt but they cannot be done at the local level because they are welded together. They are done by a company that specializes in that.
