Sounds like the clutch is going out. Are any check engine lights or maintenance lights on?
Here are some signs of a clutch going out,
A “spongy” clutch is one of the first signs that your clutch is going bad. To tell if your clutch is soft, drive your car around the block and pay special attention to the feel of your clutch or how far you have to let the clutch out before the gear catches. If you have to let your clutch out most of the way, that is also a sign of a worn clutch.
When your clutch is failing, it is often accompanied by a burning smell. The smell is generally from the friction of a slipping clutch.
If you notice your cars is not shifting smoothly or is shaking when shifting, your clutch is probably on the way out. Rough shifting is a strong indicator your clutch is bad, and is especially noticeable in first gear and reverse.
You can remove the inspection cover at the bottom of the bell housing to see your clutch. When your clutch is going bad, you’ll notice substantial visible damage to the clutch itself. Often there is a substantial amount of black powder around the clutch; this is due to normal wear and tear.
