Hi my dad has a 2006 Chevy SSR. He came home and had a check engine light on. I pulled the codes. The only one I got was P0430. When it came up on my machine it showed the code and said Catalyst System Low Efficiency Bank 2. What would cause this code. I did a tune up on it no more than 15000 miles ago. And I changed the wire set also. Any suggestions on what his code could mean. I looked the code up it gave me so many possibilities. I seen it could be the catalytic converter. I am up for any suggestions. Thanks.

Also these are stock catalytic convectors. If one is bad should I just go ahead and replace the other side also if this is what is causing the codes?

430 is the right converter is no good causing the code or an air leak prior to converter or sometimes an O2 sensor so if you can read the sensors and they are ok then it's a converter or air leak.

Check for an exhaust leak in front of the converter, check that the O2 sensors on that bank are OK as well. A slow or contaminated sensor can toss a false code. Check the fuel trims as well. Just to rule out something other than the cat. If those are OK then replace the cat. I wouldn't do both unless they are a welded assembly. Haven't looked at an HHR in a while so I don't recall the exhaust configuration.
