CEL a month ago, car starts idles decently until I put it in reverse it drops into gear pretty hard and doesn't accelerate. Goes into drive but still no acceleration, or very very little. Put it in park and the Idle starts to get erratic and bogged down. Cleaned MAF and self diagnosed IAC malfunction - iac not replaceable on my 05 model so I ordered a refurbished throttlebody.
Worked and drove fine for about a month, then the same symptoms started again. Finally purchased a code reader and pulled a P0606. Faulty ECM. It dawned on me that the cleaning and repairs that I made were not what fixed the car temporarily, it was disconnecting the battery and having the computer restart.
Discovered that there was a recall for the ECM for my 05 Toyota Matrix. Had the vehicle towed into the dealer and they replaced it for free. Car drove fine for two days and now the same symptoms are back.
