I'm installing an engine block heater

Most of them are installed into a freeze plug hole. There should be instruction with the kit or where it was designed to go.

I don't recommend a setup like that at all. Installing a heater in the radiator hose will do nothing for heating the block since the thermostat will not allow circulation and heating the radiator will do nothing for the engine. Something installed into the block is the only way to actually keep the block warm.

MAYBE YE OLE HEATER CORE GENERATED IT'S OWN HEAT AND KEPT THE FROST OFF OF THE WINDSHIELD?

FACT: Heating the radiator does not heat the block with a closed thermostat.

That totally depends on what type of heater you buy. The best type goes into the block in a freeze plug hole.

SAYS IT CAN ONLY BE INSTALLED ON THE UPWARD RISE OF THE LOWER RADIATOR HOSEIF YOURS DON'T RISE TOWARDS THE WATER PUMP. IT SHOULD NOT BE INSTALLED

I don't have the car here to look at but I have never seen a block that didn't have freeze plugs. They are required for the casting process.

It appears that you won't be able to use the freeze plug type on that engine. You will need something compatible with the access holes offered in that engine.
