I tried going to work this morning and inserted the into the ignition of the car. The key would not turn to start. I tried different approaches such as wiggling the steering whell from one side to the other and trying to turn the key at the same time. That failed. I then placed a little lubricant to the key and in the ignition with same results. I am totally confused as to what the problem might besides needing to change the ignition switch and/or tumblers. Do you have an advised as to what the problem might be?

Either you have the wrong key or the ignition key cylinder is bad. If the tumblers are bad, you should be able to feel the key turn slightly but if you have the wrong key, it would not even budge. A locksmith might be able to help you with tumblers repairs.
