I've got a problem with my Peugeot 206; 1.4l Petrol, 55 plate, 32000 miles.
Basically when I start it up from cold, I leave it for about 30 seconds and the engine starts to shake and jolt a bit and the revs go up and down ever so slightly. If I try to accelerate its like its trying to pull away but cant and jolts a lot even with my foot all the way down. Sometimes it backfires as well when trying to accelerate. Once the shaking is done it runs fine and wont do it again unless I turn it off for a couple of hours and start it up again. I've had it down a garage and they've cleaned out the filter and run an engine diagnostics test and said nothing comes up that suggests theres a problem but it still does it. Was hoping you could shed some light on this as to what it might be? There seems to be quite a few people with this problem but with lots of different recommendations.

There are a number of things that can cause this one. So we need to start with the basics.

First and foremost we need to find out if there are codes. Here is a guide that will help with this:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

Next would be a vacuum leak when the engine is cold. So we have a guide that will help with this testing:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-use-an-engine-vacuum-gauge

Lastly would be a misfire that is not registering a code yet. So we need to check and see if there is a misfire and the easiest way to do this is to pull a plug wire when it is running poorly and see if the engine runs worse.

If it doesn't then that could be the misfiring cylinder.

Let's start with this info and lastly we need to monitor the o2 data when it is cold to see if it is lean or rich. I am attaching a chart that will help determine this.

Let us know what you find. Thanks

Dear Bandy_91,

I know it was a long ago, but did you manage to find the cause of the problem? I'm having exactly the same issue with my 2004 206 gti. Really appreciate your help. Thanks!

Hi,

Unfortunately, the person didn't leave the final repair information. However, we can try to help.

I need to ask a favor. Since your vehicle is a different model year, could you start a new post? We try to keep things specific to one topic, model and year vehicle so that it is more helpful to others. I hope you understand.

Here is the link to start a new post:

Again, I hope you understand.

Take care,

Joe
