This happens every now and again. The gas cap failed. You will need to break it. (Dont worry!) The top black half can be broken fairly easily with a pair of channel lock pliers. The idea here is to seperate the halves of your gas cap. Your trying to break the handle part. Squeeze it with pliers until the plastic breaks, or cracks. Then you can use a flat blade screwdriver to work it off the base. The base part of the cap is where the threads are. Once you gain access to that, you can grab it with those pliers, and turn counter clockwise to remove. Keep in mind your destroying this gas cap, so you will need a replacement. Be kinda careful while doing this, as you can destroy the trim piece that hold the fuel fillerneck inplace. Its a pretty easy job, just take your time.
