I was driving on the freeway yesterday and my 2005 Honda Civic died. First the radio went and then the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree and then it well...just died. I had it towed to a shop and they are telling me that I need to replace the battery as well as the alternator. They also told me that the current battery is an "off the market battery." I've never had the battery changed. Should I contact the dealer where I purchased my Honda? I live in a different state now. Would it be better to contact Honda corporate directly? Did the dealer do something shady/illegal? Why would they sell me a brand new car with an off the market battery? My husband always told me that something didn't look/feel right when he would check things out under the hood. I am having the shop replace the battery and the alternator but is it worth letting Honda know? I kind of feel cheated.

Thanks,
Jen Borman

It may have been that the factory battery died while the car was sitting on the lot waiting for a buyer, or an shady mechanic needed a battery for his car.. You can let Honda know, if for no reason other than peace of mind.
