I have a 2005 Honda Accord with over 100,000 miles on it. New battery installed less than 1 year. It tested okay within the last month as being okay according to Valvoline. The car will crank but I have to hold the key in the start position for several seconds before it turns over. If I don't the car won't start and I have to have the battery jumped. Before I take it to the dealer - what is are the possible causes for the problem? I can't afford to pay for any uneccessary work.

Have the dealer do an AVR. This will test your starting and charging system, as well as the battery.

If they all pass, you may have a parasitic draw on the system. This means that something is draining your battery even with the key off! This can quickly run-down the battery and cause a hard or no start.
