There's lots of different noises with lots of different causes. Worn ball joints, worn control arm bushings, broken anti-sway bar links, broken front outer universal joints on 4wd trucks are just a few of the possibilities. Noises are not something to ignore, especially on Ford trucks. They have way more than their share of parts that separate leading to loss of control. The best approach is to have the steering and suspension inspected at a tire and alignment shop.
