Motor will stall when put in gear and sometimes when revved up just idling in park.

Check idle air control valve (IAC). The IAC is responsible for maintaining the engine idle speed. Also, a common problem with the 5.4L is vacuum leaks. There is a vacuum line off the rear of the throttle body which has a 90 degree elbow in it. The elbows are common to dry rot and leak. Check that too.

If the vehicle hasn't been tuned up in some time, that could be a consideration too. If the check engine light is on, let me know what codes are in the system.
